7TP2 BUSINESS PLANNING IN TOURISM
This unit is a 2 credit course and it will introduce students with principles and methods of developing tourism-related business plans. Concepts, issues, and formats of writing up business plans will be discussed in the course where students will also be peer tutors of each other. Individual students will present a business proposal as the final product of learning.
5TP3 Research on ELT
This unit is a 4 credit course and it will introduce students with principles and methods of designing, implementing, and reporting ELT studies. Parametric and non-parametric as well as bivariate and multivariate analyses and inferences will be trained and independently practiced. Problems sets will be distributed to individual and group of students as parts of students' learning portfolio. Simplified research proposal and report will be the final individual product of the class.

ACADEMIC READING
Mata kuliah ini bertujuan untuk membekali para mahasiswa baru dengan keterampilan membaca terutama teks-teks berbahasa Inggris secara cepat dan tepat. Mengingat tanggung jawab membaca mahasiswa Magister Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang begitu besar, maka sejumlah topik yang berkaitan langsung dengan keterampilan membaca akademik dipandang perlu untuk difahami dan diterapkan oleh mereka. Adapun topik-topik yang akan disampaikan dalam kegiatan matrikulasi Academic Readiing adalah: Definisi reading, Hakikat membaca, Jenis dan tujuan membaca, dan teknik-teknik membaca.
Cognition and Language Teaching
Cognition and Language teaching focuses on theoretical dan practical perspectives on language perception, comprehension and production and its relation to cognitive language processing.
Discourse Analysis and Language Teaching
This course is aimed at introducing and applying contemporary discourse theories on English language teaching.
ELT Contemporary Methods and Strategies
This course aims at introducing the students with post-method and other contemporary strategies of English language teaching.
ELT Curriculum and Materials Development
Generally speaking, this course introduces graduate students of English Education of UNRAM to the core principles and general understanding of developing English Language Teaching (ELT) curriculum and materials development. Initially, students will be exposed to the fundamental concepts of ELT curriculum, which covers (1) the route of curriculum development; (2) a variety of curriculum designs, (3) analyses of the needs for the renewal of curriculum, and (4) problems and controversies concerning curriculum implementation. The expected learning outcome at this stage is that students will be able to analyze and evaluate the current problems concerning the production and implementation of the 2013 national curriculum. In the further stage, students are focused to learn to apply their knowledge to (1) design curriculum, (2) develop ELT materials, and (3) devise evaluation or assessment for the curriculum designed. The class will be conducted by employing an online discussion-based & task-based teaching method. Students are expected to read the prescribed texts, powerpoints and watch videos beforehand, discuss assigned topics in the virtual classroom, whenever possible connect what they read with their own experiences, conduct online research projects of their own interests pertaining to curriculum and materials development, and design and create English teaching materials for the classroom presentation. By doing so, students will be well equipped with the ability to critically analyze, design, evaluate and create ELT curriculum and teaching materials. Ultimately students will be able to produce the drafts of curriculum and materials development projects based on their own interests.
At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:
Understand the areas and fundamental concepts of ELT curriculum and materials development.
Select, analyze, and critique selected scholarly academic papers of ELT curriculum and materials development.
Articulate the concepts and designs of their own ELT curriculum and materials
Write and present the draft of their own ELT curriculum and materials.
ELT Phonetics and Phonology
This course is developed on general theories on phonetics and phonology and their contribution on English language teaching, The concepts in sound production are discussed, how they relate to the native and non-native speaker identities of English speakers is analysed and how they contribute learners' phonetic and phonological errors is also identified.
Full participation is required. Students must write two phonetic and phonological papers. In Assignment #1, students must write a maximum 1000-word response paper (max 4 pages) on the ideas presented in the class. In Assignment #2, students must write a maximum 5000 research paper (max 20 pages).
