RESEARCH ON ELT
This course introduces students to the basic principles of doing research in English language learning and teaching. Students are expected to acquaint themselves with fundamental concepts of research. Initially, students are exposed to the understanding of a variety of research paradigms, methodology, method and ethics in foreign language. The learning outcome at this stage is students being able to differentiate the nature of qualitative and quantitative research in ELT. Further, students are focused to learn to apply their knowledge to develop research designs, methods, instruments, techniques of data gathering and data analysis. Instruction will include the essential procedures and concepts needed for the entire research process, from identifying the problem to writing the research report. Students are required to critique research findings from a number of journal publications in language teaching and learning. Having good knowledge in research, ultimately students are expected to be able to use their knowledge in research methodology and method, whenever appropriate, to produce the drafts of their research project proposals based on their own inquiries
By the end of the study, students are expected to able to:understand the meaning of certain standard research concepts, including research ethics
- recognize significant components of research in the research preparation
- formulate an appropriate research methodology and method
- design a pertinent research design, method of data collection and analysis
- Apply research concepts, designs, techniques and procedure in ELT
- Develop instruments for data collection
- Select methods of data analysis, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
- Construct a research proposal
RESEARCH ON ELT 5TP-1
This two credit course is aimed to provide the students with some basic understanding and knowledge about research as an approach to develop science, particularly in English language teaching and learning. In general students will be exposed to discussions about the process of conducting a research and some knowledge about how to do it.
The course contains some discussions on the topics related to research in English language teaching and learning. After finishing a topic, students will be given tasks to sharpen their understanding, knowledge and skill about the
topic that will be reflected to the students’ competence in conducting a research.
At about the end of the course, students will be led to write a research proposal in English language teaching and learning either for their thesis or scientific paper.
Second Language Acquisition
This
course provides an introduction to major issues and theories in second language
acquisition underlying current methods of language teaching. Understanding of
these issues will broaden the students’ perspectives in the field of foreign
language learning and teaching. Possible topics include the roles of first
language, the differences between the first and the second language
acquisition, variables affecting second language learning, Input Hypothesis, Natural Order Hypothesis, Contrastive Analysis, and Error Analysis. Lectures
and discussions of the assigned reading will be major class activities.
Instructional Media
This course provides the students with the knowledge and skills of selecting and designing the appropriate instructional media for the teaching of English at SMP/SMA/SMK. The materials are the concept of instructional media, the principles of selecting and designing instructional media, printed><nonprinted media, projected><non-projected media, audio-visual media, and low-high technology media. The designed teaching media should be relevant to the principles of the genre-based approach, EFL learners' background, and linguistic input needs.

By the end of the study, students will be able to:
- Understand the rationale and various concepts of textbook analysis and evaluation.
- Recognize the benefits of conducting textbook analysis and evaluation.
- Demonstrate objectives of textbook analysis and evaluation
- Analyze critically problems concerning English textbooks written in the EFL settings.
- Select methods of doing textbook analysis and evaluation of various numbers of textbooks available in the market.
- Develop criteria for textbook analysis and evaluation
- Formulate an appropriate design for analyzing and evaluating English learning materials
- Write English learning materials based on results of their analyses and evaluations.

TOEFL PREPARATION COURSE
This course is intended to support English 2 for students of Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Medicine. This focuses on TOEFL Preparation to help students to achieve the required score on TOEFL (450) as one of graduation requirements
Translation & Interpreting
A subject introducing the basic theory of translation of different texts and genres, the terms used, and a brief analysis of text as a doorway to a more complex translation practice.

VOCABULARY BUILDING Mrs. KHKH 2020/2021
Course Description:
This course aims to provide students an opportunity to explore and experience basic concepts of vocabulary building (part of speech, words with prefixes, words with suffixes, words with both prefix and suffix, antonym, synonym, homophone, homograph, and topical vocabulary) and the use of vocabulary in context. Within 16 meetings, the students will do individual work, pair work, as well as group work covering text analysis, vocabulary games and challenges, and some exercises in word building and sentence formation in written or oral context.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, after actively participating all meetings, participants are expected to be able to :
- Demonstrate adequate ability to identify and use part of speech in context.
- Demonstrate adequate ability to identify and use prefixes, suffixes, and prefixes-suffixes, antonym, synonym, Homophone, and homograph in context.
- Demonstrate adequate ability to put new vocabulary in correct sentences or short written or oral texts
- Demonstrate awareness to enrich their vocabulary from listening or reading activities.
